Ayurvedic Eye Treatments you can make at home
Eye-care products don’t always come with a heavy price tag, especially when you make them yourself! You can create several kinds of home-made concoctions for treating dark circles and aging signs like wrinkles. Using some basic principles of Ayurveda you can also ensure that these recipes are natural and free of any side effects. Given below are two simple Ayurvedic eye-care recipes that you can try in the comfort of your own house.
Apple Eye Cream
You will need:
- Apple sauce – 3-4 tablespoons,
- One medium sized potato.
Grate the potato and mix it with the apple sauce. Apply this mixture around your eye area, being careful to keep it at least half an inch away from the eyes. Please make sure that you do not apply the paste directly to your eyelids. Use a cool and damp cloth to cover your face. Lie down or sit in a comfortable position for ten minutes while your home-made apple eye treatment works its magic.
This treatment is best used when fresh. Hence, it is not recommended that you store it in the refrigerator for future use.
Tomato Eye Cream
You will need:
- Half a cup of fresh tomato puree,
- A pinch of turmeric powder,
- A tablespoon of wheat flour,
- Two tablespoons of lemon juice.
Mix all the ingredients except the wheat flour in a bowl. Now add the wheat flour a little bit at a time so that the paste acquires the desired thickness. (A thicker paste will settle better around the eyes.) Apply this to your eye area, and not directly on the eyelids. Maintain a safe distance of about half an inch from your eyes. Recline and enjoy this soothing cream for 5-10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.
Tip: Tea contains a great amount of anti-oxidants and is very good for the eyes. It can relieve swelling and pain in the eyes. You can benefit from it when your eyes need to relax after a long day of work. Simply boil a spoonful of tealeaves in water, strain and collect the water, and allow it to cool. Dip two cotton balls in the cooled tea water and place them on your eyes. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!
